Dress A Day is pleased to present its first offspring — that is, the first dress I know of that was made specifically in reference to a post here. Isn't that a great dress? [Name removed by request] of Hong Kong saw the post on Duro Olowu and thought "I need me one of those!" and — boom! — she got one made. (The benefits of living in Hong Kong!)
Needless to say, I'm very proud. I'd be passing out pink bubblegum cigars if I could. And I *love* the dress! Look how nicely the zebra stripes are placed. And that blue is just perfect!
She thought the background of the picture was too messy, because it was taken in the workroom, but I think the books and fabric and other dresses in the background just add to the coolth of the entire undertaking.

I too have bought patterns, and I acquired another sewing machine to replace the Ancient One. Now I’m on the quest for The Perfect Fabric and The Perfect Time. Right. I’ll get back to you in a year or two with the results!aka Madelene

Re: the Hippy Chick dress – I’ll probably finish mine tonight, after Little Bird goes to bed. So far, I can tell you this: the instructions are CRAP. I am only containing my bile b/c I am thinking of the writeup I’ll do here or at patternreview.com …The armholes *are* really tight. The good news is that the pattern pieces go together really well, once you figure out the (*$&($^ ORDER! Seriously, ignore the instructions.

I am holding my newly found love of Dress A Day soley responsible for the influx of pattern purchases and my ever decreasing bank balance. Loving the inspiration and community of dressmakers *sigh* – in my circle of friends, i’m the cooky sewer that noone understands… God love the internet community! Will let you know as soon as I get something made from the pattern purchases – am stuck in an ongoing quilt that has been sat for 4 years unbound. Then i will allow myself to dress make again!!xx

Thank you so much for publising my baby ,it’s a tribute to DURO OLOWU….I felt in love with this dress and it made me go out to serach for fabric…..I am obsessed with finding interesting printed silk fabric and matching the trims …it is so exciting….every one of them is UNIQUE…..I even got friends asking me why I make the same dress in different fabric….well…I will try to experience it when I wear it…..though I didn’t sew this dress…I wish I am as talented as all of you that you can sew from patterns…..maybe I will try in the future…if I can get tips from all of you….But honestly speaking…….Hong Kong is a great place to find fabrics and to get dress maker to make it for you…So there will be more of these photos……………..stay tune….

The dress looks wonderful, i’m even more excited now about my approaching visit to China. I would really like to get few dresses made while I’m in Hong Hong, but I don’t speak the language and will only be in the city for 3/4days. Can you help with telling where to go for fabrics and getting a dress made? thanks very much

How can I add a photo here xD? My living room is part….living room (duh) but half bridal boutique….the joys (I think) of having an overflow room for the bridal shop. And they say you shouldn’t let your other half bring her work home.
