Ooooooh. Yellow!

ebay item 8413251369

Isn't this amazing? It's on offer from Traven7 on eBay, and it looks to be in magnificent condition — and a spectacular color. Bidding's at about $70 as I write this, and it's a wearable size ("wearable," of course, means "I could wear it") B36-38, W 29-30. Look at the collar, the buttons! This dress demands a party. In fact, the first thing this dress made me think of was saying "Hello, darling! What do you want to drink?"

I am very engaged with yellow, lately. I bought the yellow Luella bag from Target (note, link is to eBay auction as the bag is sold out) which fulfilled my main bag requirements (handy outside pockets for my Treo and my iPod). And it's washable, bonus! I have moved my yellow cardigan sweater to the top of the pile for easier retrieval. And I bought some insane yellow-mustard-brown-red abstract floral pique, which, if I get some sewing time tonight/tomorrow, I will post as a dress on Sunday or Monday.

Traven7 notes that this dress is from a Vogue Couturier pattern, so not only can I daydream about buying this one and throwing a party just to wear it, I can scheme about acquiring the original pattern, and making my own version (although the way I'm going now, if I made one, it would also be yellow).

I'm trying not to go overboard with the yellow, though, because just a couple of summers ago I felt this way about pure bubblegum pink, and, except for an iPod skin and a couple of sweaters, bubblegum pink and I don't really talk anymore. It's sad, really. We just grew apart, got too busy, or something. I should give her a call, see if she wants to go out for a drink sometime …

  1. Wow. What fabulous lines! Although that color would make me look like I should’ve been buried three days ago…If you ever ID the pattern, let us know!

  2. I am now in deep lust for this dress. I just know she wants to come over and play with me. 😉 You are a wonderfully evil woman, and I hope we don’t end up bidding against one another. -Boston Heather

  3. Sigh, yellow. I have this adorable yellow floral fabric that is begging to be made into a summer dress, but like lisa laree, yellow is not so much flattering on me. What to do?

  4. Don’t worry, I’m not bidding. I’m holding out for the pattern.Hilatron, could you do one with a contrasting collar, so there’s no yellow by your face?

  5. Boy, I usually look like death warmed-over in yellow; but this shade is one that actually looks decent on me! I think that anything paler matches my skin, and I end up looking bilious. The “marigold” color actually reminds me of Michelle Williams’ Oscars dress.

  7. Love it, and I even like the yellow, and yellow and I do not mix. It’s a bright enough yellow to almost be wearable. I’ll never forget the year my mother gave me a yellow outfit for my birthday. Pale yellow. I put it on, and people immediately started asking me if I felt well. I’d never had so much interest in my health!I ended up taking it back to the store. I can’t remember what I traded it for, but I sure remember that outfit. This dress, however, I’d be tempted to keep.

  9. Hilatron, that’s some awesome fabric! What about a wide square black neckband and band around the bottom of the skirt?Or you could trade it to me for something else. What color do you like? 🙂

  10. *whimper* This dress is just sublime, and, I regret to say, would look fabulous on me (disregarding the yellowness of it, of course). Erin, what’s the pattern number and date? I would have trouble, at least right now, justifying adding this dress, glorious though it is, to my wardrobe.Hilatron, I too have found that a contrasting colour helps. What are the other colours in the print? Can you do a collar, or, better yet, separate collar and cuffs! in one of the other colours? If you were obsessive, of course, you could do a separate C&C for each of the different colours in the print. Failing that, what about a white, or an eyelet, collar? (With something as splendid as this dress, of course, I would go with … black. Because.)Of course, sometimes I just lower the neckline so there’s enough me-colour between the dress and my face so my face isn’t competing with the dress. Plus, the onlookers are mostly snowblind by then, anyway.
