64 Days and Counting

Oscar De La Renta spring collection

By my count, there are at least 64 days left until spring, and I'm resenting every last chilly one of them. I've never liked January, February gives me a pain, and March is just one long muttering under my breath of "in like a lion, out like a lamb." By the time I've eaten all my Christmas chocolate (which can often happen before New Year's Day) I am already thinking about spring.

Yes, thinking about spring, and dresses like this one above, which is Oscar de la Renta, and adorable. I think the gray dress would be stronger without the floral embroidery, but you have to admit those motifs look great on this one here:

And look at all the pockets! If you click on either of the images, you can hie yourself through the whole slide show, and pretty much every dress has pockets. That Oscar, he knows what women want. Or at least what I want, which is to turn off my space heater and put on a floral dress, shove my hands in my pockets, and walk outside without a coat on (without that being an act of foolhardy bravado). (In fact, I want to not be able to remember where my coat IS.)

Forget Advent calendars; I want one for Spring, where behind every door is a crocus, daffodil, or just a brief glimpse of warm sunshine and the smell of thawing earth …

  1. Here here, I can’t WAIT for spring. I don’t mind snow, and snuggling into something warm… BUT I much prefer the warmer weathers when I can wear sandals, and sun dresses, and lightweight cotton full skirts, and and and…

  2. We have been fortunate up till now that most of our winter days have actually been spring-like. Many days I’ve been able to go out with just my sweatshirt jacket. Today is a different story with hats, gloves, coat, and ice scraper to the car. Those dresses are feminine! They show a woman’s shape yet are discreet. I think I have got to try and loose this belly bulge of mine as these are my favorite kinds of dresses.

  3. Loved the post….this is why I go to Jamaica every Feb…to defrost….I’d like to take these dresses with me but have to settle with the Duro I am finishing right now. And I added pockets!

  4. The yellow is just great! I wish I could wear yellow without looking like death. And I have found, especially while having a cold, nothing beats pockets.

  5. I looked at the slide show and I would wear just about any of those dresses. but what’s up with the hair? Were the models late to the runway and had no time to at least run a comb through their hair? I wanted to see the back of their heads just to see if they had a big snarly rats nest there.Weather wise, I live in Austin Texas and we had snow today for the first time in 10 years!

  7. I am so tired of cold weather. I too want a Spring calendar. I was surprised at how many of the dresses I liked. I usually don’t like runway fashions. The hair also puzzled me.

  8. I live north of Seattle and since Thanksgiving its either been snow or strong winds. I want spring so bad! We’ve had great weather here for the last 4-5 years and I’m spoiled. I am leaving in a couple weeks to visit friends in Phoenix area so hope its nice then. Love those dresses! Agree about the hair.

  10. I was required to study fashion designers biographies and philosophies in college (getting a home ec.was a blast in the 70’s)Oscar was my favorite designers because he designed FOR women, and view women as extraordinary beings of beauty and grace. The other designers designed to make a statement about themselves, and really viewed women as just a prop for the clothes. I won’t even start on the guys who designed to make women look like young boys. Those designers generally were men who prefered young boys for their amorous activities. Yuck. After reading Calvin Klein’s bio, I could never look at any of his designs anymore without feeling sick to my stomach. Eeek.Oscar is a gem.

  12. I looked at the embellishment more closely and it looks like the “flowers” are appliqued with seam binding around the edge. It’s a really effective use of the striped fabric!
