Individualisma. That ineffable aura of being ME and ONLY Me. Nobody else can be me, because I am an individual as you can get. Even when I was conceived, I was an individual—nobody even considered that I might be part of a conjoined twin. Look, I must hold my head from the unbearable mental strain of my individualism! (Also, this is my good side.) I should bottle this individualness and sell it. I would call it Indi.Vidual. Because random punctuation is so individualistic! Also, it would smell purple.
Pay no attention to the wannabe over there in pink. If she were a true individualist she would wear black, like me. Also, she only has one piece of asymmetrical clothing! Total amateur.
That said, I totally would have worn this in 1986. In the back of my head, I can hear the theme music for Bonjour Jeans ads in the 80s. They had similarly attituded ladies in tight Bonjour Jeans with the phrase Bonjour…. action…. Bonjour… action ad nauseum.I get this is not a jeans related item, but the attitude is identitical.

Had I seen this in the 80s, I definitely would have worn it (and taken a break from my o-ring bracelets and flashdance t-shirts — and, if I forget, leg warmers). Id sew it now if it was in my budget right now. sigh.

You mean all my 80s and 90s Miyake patterns are worth MONEY? It makes me sad that those square shapes dont really look that good on me. They look so cool on the models. The sewing details are all really neat, too.

omg, i think i did wear this in 1986. i still have a drawer full of miyake patterns; i know ill never sew them again but just cant get rid of them (and this one is tame in comparison to most of the others.)

The hem on that asymmetrical skirt doesnt seem asymmetrical enough. It seems that part of the difference is the way shes standing, with her left hip higher. So if she were to stand straighter, there would be even less of an asymmetry.But far be it from me to question Miyake . . .

Ah, the 80s pattern pose… Lots of standing on one leg in order to accentuate the reverse triangle look with the super boxy shoulders…

I am so individual that I will not make or wear this. I know Issey Miyake is very beloved, but everything of his I have seen so far I think is very unflattering. Just my humble opinion. Funny story though — I really enjoyed it.

I think black/grey/white is somewhat disturbed by the lack of facial features on pink.
