That ‘easy pattern’ was my first foray into vintage sewing a few years ago. It is indeed very easy and I was so pleased with that first attempt that I went on to make another two or three dresses from it, every one a success! Never made the bolero though…

This story reminds me of the matching monkey dresses in one of the Ramona books, by Beverly Cleary. The girls’ mothers were supposed to make them matching dresses out of adorable monkey fabric, but Ramona’s friend’s mother didn’t do a very good job, and Ramona was heartbroken.

Oh boy…and not only did the bad-sewist mom not add a collar, etc., she also didn’t PRESS the dress, either. Which was really a tragedy and lead to someone’s sash getting (********** SPOILKER ALERT ***********) ripped off on the playground, later.
