And would you consider doing it in this dress from Topshop?
I would definitely wear this dress, it's so over-the-top festive (it reminds me of the Betabrands Lust Skirt). Probably with black tights and high-heeled lace-up boots (to give it a little edge). And silver eyeliner, maybe? Click on the image to check out the back, which sensibly has no sequins at all (so that you aren't poked every time you sit down).
Speaking of NYE, I don't actually have any plans. Anyone have ideas for something fun to do in San Francisco (keeping in mind that I don't drink)? I suppose I have a month to put something together …
The same thing I do every NYE. Sleep.

Go to Grace Cathedral. They play a silent movie and have an incredible organist come in to accompany it. I can’t emphasize how good she is or how much fun it is to bring the new year in this way. I think they’re doing Hunchback of Notre Dame this year, and as Grace Cathedral is modeled on Notre Dame it’s doubly fun! Shows at 7 and 10.

If I were your age or if I were thinner, I’d wear that dress, with shoes in a metallic leather to match one of the colours, probably the hot pink. It’s really quite plain and covered up, and a style that will last forever. Yummy! It’s great for the surprise value, too. Open a plain black coat, and reveal the glittering butterfly within.

Enjoy your New Year’s eve whatever you end up
doing – I would love to spend the New Year
in San Francisco – my favourite city!

If I wasn’t working NYE (can you hear the bitterness) I’d be going to see Greg Proops and laughing my arse off. Before that I’d have had a nice dinner somewhere and then enjoy intelligent humor at the Punchline in SF. But I’m working. And bitter…
Hope you find the right thing for you 🙂

Too funny! That is exactly what I was going to say!
It is adorable and I love the randomness of the sequins. I stole an image as inspiration. I might employ a bit of that on something more age appropriate.

Yes, I love multi-coloured sparkles! The hemline is a little high for me, but I’m so short it would probably be almost knee-length. I’ve seen matching rainbow-sparkle nail polish recently!
Of course, my actual NYE will be a relaxed gathering of family and will end way before midnight, so there is no chance of this dress appearing then.

I don’t drink either – and we are holding an open house style mocktail party! There are so many fun ones that can be made; and the big kids can be bartenders for the easy-to-mix drinks! They even get a tip jar. 🙂

That is a perfect New Year’s Eve dress. I feel like you have to wear something sparkley on NYE, and the multi colors are whimsical and fun, and the sexyness is balanced by the conservative high neckline. (I have a small bust so I can pull it off, but anyone with a larger bust might consider a different dress..)

I don’t especially like this dress, but I can see it with a long gold tassel necklace that hangs down the back and perhaps a light weight black wrapshawlscarf for arm coverage. Tall black heels, bare legs, and a little black clutch. Less is more, let the sparkles speak for themselves.

Totally love it and would certainly wear it. Never mind 20 years or 20 pounds…life is to short to wear ugly dresses!

Not crazy about the dress. We’re staying home and hosting a Pancakes & Games party mid-day for all our friends who either don’t want to be up late or have better deals going on late at night. We found ourselves asleep by 10pm too many NYEs to try to go out anymore (plus drunk people annoy the crap out of me, so even less incentive to go out of the house). This way, we get to have some fun with friends and still avoid the NYE crazies.

Too bad its out of stock, and NO you can’t see the back if you click on the image:(.

That dress is nearly the twin of my senior prom dress–and New Year’s Eve would be the perfect occasion to bring it back for a night out. I say yes to the dress. OMG, did I just use a TLC show title in casual conservation? Stopping now.

Yeah I agree that this dress is perfect for New Years Eve because of its glittering effect! Like Like Like!

I am throwing a formal seven-course dinner with friends, fellow retrophiles. The gowns I do have have already seen to much use this year, which means that I need to either a. find a vintage evening gown, or b. make one before New Year’s. We’ll see how that goes. It will be lovely, though.

I love that dress! Gorgeous! Not sure what I will be doing for NYE… don’t want to get stranded in the city like last year, but i do want to go out so I can wear my “confetti” dress 🙂 http://sewmelove.blogspot.com/2011/10/v8469-confetti-polyester.html

I would absolutely wear that dress…as long as it isn’t “crotch short” like everything else I’ve tried on lately.
There’s a big bash at Bimbo’s! http://www.bimbos365club.com/event/74221/
The hubs and I will be doing our usual low key NYE split between our favorite bar and our favorite motorcycle club.

For NYE, the goal should always be MORE SPARKLES!!!! The one with the most sequins, beads, and crystals WINS!
With all the light glittering on that dress, an extra 20 pounds won’t even show.
My NYE plans are always the same–all the movies I’ve missed in the past year (a lot), a bottle of champagne, and good food! Sometimes I throw on something sparkly, even though I’m at home, just cuz!
