Isaac promises you a rose garden. Take him up on it.

mizrahi rose garden dress

I was in Target on Sunday and I almost bought this despite the fact that I don't do spaghetti straps and despite the sad truth that I am too short-waisted for the Mizrahi sizing. I have to say, it looks ten times better in person than it does in this picture. (I think the model is standing funny — she's minimizing her chest and maximizing her hips, which is wrong for this dress.) The bodice has a slight asymmetrical surplice effect (hard to see in this picture), and it's lined in a smaller rose print that is just adorable. The fabric also looks much more vintage and less like a couch in person.

And it's only $39.99! As I said, I almost bought it right on the spot, and if the (mostly-Orthodox) customers of my local Target don't swoop in and grab all these, I *will* buy it when it's on clearance and figure out if I can take up the shoulder straps (and find a nice cardigan to wear over it). It's that cute. If your Target is not frequented by customers who would find this immodest, I'd grab it right away. I bet it will sell out. It's so classic, too, that if you were afraid of seeing yourself coming and going, you could hold onto it for a season or two, wait until everyone's forgotten it, and then bust it out. Not that I've ever done that with anything from *cough* H&M *cough* or anything.

Oh, Isaac, your dresses are so cute! Why can't you find a fit model who's not so long from shoulder to waist? I would gladly volunteer …

  1. Damn, I’m a sucker for the surplice-top-plus-poofy-skirt dress. I have it in at least three iterations already, and I still want that one.

  2. Oh, what a honey. And I share your short-waisted pain. When I was younger, I was narrow-hipped, so I could simply cheat the waist down. Now that I have curves, all of my skirts (and I love skirts) ride high.

  3. Long-waisted you say? I have once (in the UK) found a dress on the rack that is long-enough-waisted for me, but when I have a waist again I’ll try on some Isaac.Wouldn’t it be great if there was a web site that had comprenesive comments on the fit of garments by different designers & manufacturers? Kind of like Zapppos for clothes? You know, “Never buy LL Bean pants unless you have a very womanly waist-hip ratio; unless you want to swim in your clothes buy a size or two small at Lands’ End, exceot bathing suits, which inexplicably tend to run true to size or even small…”

  4. A longer waist often indicates a cut for a taller person. However, judging by the lenghth of the skirt, that is not the case. And yet, I will be inexplicably drawn to trying on that dress, only to have my speculations confirmed, and my hopes dashed. Has anyone ever noticed how much clothes shopping is like dating? No? Never mind. Amy

  5. Sooo, how full *is* the skirt? Would this dress work with a petticoat? Because I notice that it’s offered in black, and I *am* shopping for some new dresses …

  6. I am a size 4 (or smaller) petite and his sizing is way too large. Which is too bad because I love his Target stuff. So, I can only look and sigh.

  7. Erin,It’s not the model. The dress really does maximize your hips and minimize your bust. I just tried it on today. 😦

  9. The dress is lovely.Maximize your hips that means my hips just went from 39 to 42.Minimize your bust this means my bust went from 36 to 33. Zowie this so will not work for moi!!!

  10. I tried this on yesterday and the waist hit me mid-rib. I’m tall and long waisted, but I’m not that tall.I wonder who he did make this dress to fit? I loved the petticoat though and wish it fit me.
