Oh. My. Goodness. I have that exact dress (sans label, and net underskirt) sitting in inventory, (waiting for it to be closer to Thanksgiving) in ecru white, instead of gray. It really is the sweetest thing on the planet. She’s right- anyone who doesn’t covet a dress full of acorns and squirrels, is a few nuts short of a full load. 😉

“A Lady of Minimal Rack” – that’s a good one. And the seller of that dress is a hoot, too – I read the descriptions of all of her items; she sounds like a staunch character. I think I would like her just from her stuff.But that squirrel dress really tops it (too bad I’m not a Lady of Minimal Waistage). And I love that it’s gray and not brown (though I also love brown), even though it’s squirrels and acorns (I’m with you, Erin, on the yellow hearts and blue roses and purple lemurs issue.) (And I know, there ARE grey squirrels, but I’ve never seen a fully gray acorn.) I don’t know what happened to me, whether it’s because I don’t live in the Big City anymore or whether it’s because I’m older, or what, but grey and brown are my new black. I’m so happy it’s cool enough to start wearing my grey wool items again!

It’s always fun to do ebay searches with odd words….squirrel being a word likely to turn up an odd assortment of funky stuff. My favourite skirt in the 70’s was a corderoy wrap skirt printed with monkeys cavorting in the trees. I made the skirt of course. Most cheery on a grey day!

Love this fabric! I’ll bet the dress is really great on a body. The fabric is a bit of a surprise for the Suzy Perette company…the cut is pure Perette, though. Brocade or damask squirrel–now there’s a word combo I’d have never put together for an eBay search.

I can honestly say I am not as much interested in the squirrel & acorn pattern as I am in the color. That gray is one of my favorite shades, and would perfectly match my cat (who could shed on it to her heart’s content).

Erin, this is the most beautiful dress I have ever seen. Unfotunately it might have fitted me when I was ten. (My mother, thin as a reed when I was a child, had had to diet to get into her 26-in-waist wedding dress – which, needless to say, no one has ever worn since. Some bargain!)

MinaW, I went over to your blog and posted comments twice – they seem to have gone Poof! into the ether. First, I LOVE your floral sprigs and scrolls – medieval and Renaissance patterns are my favorites!Second, I’m not entirely sure which shoulder seam adjustments you refer to; I’ve posted so much on Erin’s blog, it’s hard to keep track! (MsAgnostic, go back to the Mizrahi post for followup information on reaching PayPal.) Is it the short bustpoint alterations that are made in kimono-sleeved dresses and jackets? Because those would be Erin’s. I am Long Bust Point woman (and not as Native American as that sounds). But if you have alteration questions, and I can help, I will, very gladly.

Sigh. I would need to be tightly corseted to get a 26″ waist, unfortunately. But I love the dress, and in my own size I’d buy it in a minute. Gray! Which I’ve discovered I look good in! And squirrels! I am honest. I want squirrels and acorns on a party dress.

Come to think of it, I didn’t have squirrels (too bad, as I love squirrels), but at least I did have acorns on a party dress. I had made a purple velvet Cavalier dress as a practice dress for my wedding dress, and I embroidered the bodice with a scrolling pattern of oak leaves and acorns in gold thread. So I would definitely be in line for the squirrel and acorn brocade. *Whimper* I had a 23″ waist when I wore my wedding dress. But that was more than two decades ago, and it’s not 23″ these days.
