International Wear A Dress Day 2009 — Save The Date

etsy custom dress from Audrey and Grace

I've been remiss in setting a date, and the year's getting down to the thin end. How do people feel about Thursday, October 29? Thoughts?

I would like to say I would be wearing this custom dress from Etsy seller Audrey and Grace, all the better to umpire International Wear A Dress Day, but sadly, I won't be.

What else should we do to celebrate? Make buttons (or "badges" for you in the UK)? Sticker templates, like the ones you wear after you give blood? What should the Twitter hashtag be? #IWADD? (That looks … unfortunate, but hey, we didn't backronym it correctly, and now we're stuck with it.) Should we have a Flickr group?

Let me know!

  5. Buttons would be good! But they should be for sale and money donated to something, no? In my (uniform-wearing) elementary school (and across the city) we could buy a button for $5 and wear jeans for kids–the money went to the childrens hospital.http://www.bcchf.net/jeansday/

  9. That sounds marvelous- I attend school at home (online), and Im only around other people on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, so a Thursday is absolutely the best day for me. I think Ill make a new dress just for the occasion- I have this great bright-striped navy hanging around thats begging to be used. And count me in for a Flickr page or Facebook group!

  10. Argh! I would love to participate in IWADD! But October 29 is the day before I move, so I will likely be packing dresses and wearing something dirty and non-dress….

  14. Ill wear a dress on IWADD. Maybe it will get me off the only wearing dresses for special occasions kick. Tights sound nice too…. But…if youre going to sew a dress as gorgeous at this, at least match up the stripes on the top and the bottom. Its the center front of each pattern piece, for goodness sake. ITS NOT THAT HARD, PEOPLE!

  18. Erinthe first Tuesday in November is Melbourne Cup day in Australia. I mention this because not only does this race stop a nation, it also inspires at least half (counting the lager lads in drag) of the nation to frock up. If you piggy back onto this day, you will ensure complete coverage of one small continent (or largest island, take your pick) Just a thought.
