"I don't care if you are taking my picture, I'm going to keep pouting until my hair is as big as those girls in the illustration! Also, don't you think I'm a little too backlit for a shirt this sheer?"

"And I do so look like Brooke Shields!"

[today's pattern courtesy of Kathleen at Little Hunting Creek. She's running a Mother's Day Sale, now through May 8th. Use the code "Dressaday" and buy three – get the fourth pattern free. They''ll take the extra pattern off at checkout. If you buy this pattern, don't be surprised if your mother tells you to smile, because you have "such a pretty face when you smile."]

Check out this elaborate shirtdress from Janet at Lanetz Living.

I can't tell if that kick pleat at the front is most amazing design detail I've ever seen, or whether it's essentially a sofa skirt. It could go either way. But the sleeve cuffs and the tuxedo-shirt collar are both genius.

I wish the bodice had princess seams than ran into the seams of that kind of tent-flap-button opening on the skirt …

As for the story, obviously Blue Dress is trying to hide her extremely recent rhinoplasty from Beige Dress, who is a notorious gossip. (See her squinty eyes? Dead giveaway. Of either gossipiness or myopia.)

So: yea or nay on that skirt pleat? Leave your answer in the comments and show your work.

Blue-Green View is totally checking out the woman in black's butt, isn't she? She's cleverly distracted Pink View with flowers sent by a "secret admirer" so she can put the moves on Black View. Her next stratagem? To find a "smudge" on Black View's backside so she can casually brush it off.

Too bad Black View is looking out into the middle distance, thinking about cake.

I really, really want this pattern — anyone got one in this size (or one down) that is for sale? Birgit at Stitches and Loops had one, but darnit, I was Too Late. Although you should really check out this shirtdress she has now, and this pocketed beauty …

I'm So Glad That You're Mine (Almost)

Simplicity_4248

Thanks to Janet at ZimmersArmy, this pattern is now mine. Or close to mine, as soon as the USPS delivers it into my waiting arms. I believe the only appropriate reaction is "oh boy!"

There are pockets, people. And look at that yoke. And I'm going to make it in just that buttercup yellow with a teal suede belt and teal shoes (…. um, someday).

I love a dress that has a narrow front and gathers in the center back of the skirt. It always feels like a train to wear — you just sweep into rooms (if you're so inclined).

Check out the looks that these two are exchanging. What happens next? My guess is: what always happens next when two people spend a little too long looking at each other.

I love that the women here are having a dance party, in their jumpers and cloches, complete with clutches and pearls. I am also trying hard to believe that they're dancing to "It Takes Two" (but I understand if you are not able to).

The woman with her back to the dancers is, of course, the DJ. Her name is DJ Schnee, and she always wears all white. It's a thing. (She's huge in Japan — has her own energy drink, and line of sneakers, and everything.)

This pattern is from Sheila at Out of the Ashes, and she is having a 15% off sale Friday thru Sunday — use the coupon code GLAMIS.

Floral: Look. Look into my midriff mandala. Lose your "self" and become one with creation.

Yellow: I represent the Sun, and thus life itself.

Green: I represent all other living things, given life by the Sun. Or, possibly, avocados. It's hard to tell. I mean, my midriff triangle could represent the avocado seed, right?

Floral: Focus, ladies!

This pattern—and everything else at ZipZapKap—is 50% off (today only! Coupon code GL400YAY50 will get you 50% off everything in the store, from 1 a.m CST Friday to 1 a.m. CST Saturday. )

Today's Pattern Story (and Sale): In Uniform

Advance_9259

I don't know what this dress is the uniform for, but please point me to the recruiting office (to picket it). The mitered tab-like thing at the front (partnered with the inverted pleat-entrance on the skirt) makes me think that something attaches there. Tab A, meet Slot B. But what is it? A cigarette-girl tray? Climbing harness? A front-mounted jetpack?

Obviously, the woman in red is a commanding officer, and the woman in blue is … confused? Although, now that I think about it, a uniform that came in floral print would have me doubly-signing-up. Signing up for a double hitch? Something to that effect.

You can't see it, because the illustration is unclear, but the ornament pinned to red-dress's shoulder is the Order of Confusing Uniform Merit, first class.

This dress is part of Sheila's current SALE, which runs Friday through Sunday night, 15% off.  The coupon code is MERRY. (Oh wait! Maybe she's a Mad-Men Era Elf! Still doesn't explain blue-floral.)
